What I Wore Wednesday....

Hey Friends!

How's your week going?!

Our house got hit yesterday by the dreaded stomach bug that has been going around! Bleck! So far, I'm the only one who has managed to escape it! And yes, I'm knocking on wood, crossing all my fingers & toes, & saying a little prayer that it STAYS that way!!

I'm back this week with another addition of "What I Wore."

You can see that the outfits above all revolve around one piece of jewelry. This aqua & green statement necklace.....

Isn't it pretty?!

I got this necklace for my birthday last month & hadn't really gotten around to wearing it until this past week. The main reason I hadn't worn it?! Because I really didn't know what I was gonna wear it with!

So, for this week's "What I Wore" post, I thought I would just throw together a few different outfit ideas!

Shirt: Old Navy
Jeans: Wet Seal
Nude Wedges: Payless
Necklace: Gordmans

Shirt: Gordmans
Jeans: Kohls
Boots: Target
Necklace: Gordmans

Chambray Shirt: TJ Maxx
White Tank: Old Navy
Jeans: Wet Seal
Nude Wedges: Payless
Necklace: Gordmans

What do you think?!

Which outfit is your favorite?

The pretty pastels have me dreaming of spring!! I can't wait for the weather to warm up! We had some really warm temps yesterday (70's), but have a chance for snow again this weekend! CRAZY! I'm longing for maxi dresses & flip flops! :) Anyone else?!

Thanks so much for stopping by! Have a blessed day!

DIY Sunburst Mirror

Hey Friends!

I hope you all are having a great weekend! The weather here is gloomy, with rain off & on today. I am fighting the urge to take a nap instead of writing this post!! This week is week three of our Dog Days of Winter Series. The theme this week is "Make It."

"Make It" week is all about choosing a project you've pinned from Pinterest & actually making it! I don't know about you all, but I have a ton of craft/DIY projects pinned, but have made only a hand few of those items. I'm sure the majority of you are guilty of this as well.  Well, this week is all about taking action & making those things you've been wanting to make for months now!

For me, it was this project: DIY Sunburst Mirror

I know I'm like a year (or more) behind on the sunburst mirror phenomenon. I've always loved the way they look & now that I've been doing some work in my master bedroom, I thought maybe I could use one in that space.

These pins were my inspiration for the project:

Paint Stick Sunburst Mirror via Centsational Girl

Knockoff Sunburst Mirror via Thrifty Decor Chick

For the most part, I followed Kate's tutorial for my sunburst mirror. However, the Lowe's store in our area wasn't willing to handover the number of paint sticks that I need for the project even though I offered to pay for them.  So, I had to come up with a different solution. Then I remembered that Sarah had used shims for her mirror, so I decided to do the same.

DIY Sunburst MIrror

Supplies:
7" Round Mirror
Embroidery Hoop
Gorilla Glue
Craft Paint
Piece of Scrap Wood
1 Package Wood Shims
Sawtooth Picture Hanger
Paint Brush (not pictured)
Hot Glue/Hot Glue Gun (not pictured)

I started off by attaching my mirror to the scrap piece of wood using gorilla glue. Then, I sat the mirror aside & let it dry thoroughly. Once it was dry, I added the sawtooth picture hanger to the backside of the scrap wood so I would be able to hang it later. Then, I started figuring out the arrangement of the shims.

DIY Sunburst MIrror

Once I knew how the shims would be arranged & how many I needed (I used 32 total), I began sanding them down.

DIY Sunburst MIrror

Once all of the edges of the shims were all smooth, I began painting them.  I followed Kate's lead here & went with metallic sahara gold & metallic taupe craft paints from Folk Art. I painted half of them sahara gold & the other half taupe. I gave them all two coats.

When they were dry, I began attaching them to the scrap wood around the perimeter of the mirror using hot glue.

After the first set of shims were on, then I added the embroidery hoop to frame out the mirror. You'll use just the inside hoop for your frame. I painted the hoop in metallic taupe & then adhered it to the mirror using the gorilla glue. I sat a heavy book on top of the hoop & let it dry for a good hour.

Once it was dry, I grabbed my hot glue gun again & added the second round of shims (in metallic taupe) to the mirror.

You'll notice in this picture that the lighter colored shims are shorter than the darker ones. I had my hubby trim 2"off each one of them to create the alternating lengths.

Once that was done, it was time to hang it on the wall! :)

I've only been sharing sneak peeks of my master bedroom thus far....it is still a work in progress & I have a few more things I am wanting to do before I show you the full room.

Happily Ever Before & After Week 18: Guest Bedroom Makeover via Brown Sugar Toast

Happy Friday Friends!!

Do you all have anything fun & exciting planned for this weekend? As of right now, it looks like we'll be spending most of our weekend at home! Not much on our agenda, so hopefully I can finish up a few projects I've been working on lately and maybe even share them here on the blog next week! Fingers crossed!! :)

For this week's Happily Ever Before & After post, I am featuring a simple, but beautiful guest bedroom makeover courtesy of Christa at Brown Sugar Toast.

Christa is a loving wife & mommy of two. She has a passion for Jesus, cooking up yummy recipes for her little family, and decorating her home.  She states in her "About Me" Page that the main goal she has in blogging is that she wants to encourage others to live a creative & joyful life in Christ. Isn't that a wonderful goal to have?! I just love that!

Christa had a guest bedroom that was just begging for some attention. With a half bath attached to this room, Christa knew it would make a perfect space for visiting guests. She wanted to make it a warm & inviting place for their visitors, but also give the space a little personality. You'll see in just a minute, that she totally accomplished that goal!

Let's take a look at the room "Before"....

Pretty much a blank slate!

Like most of us, Christa turned to Pinterest & other sources on the web for paint & color inspiration for the room.  After finding a few inspiring photos, she figured out the direction she wanted to go with this space. Wanna see it?!

Let's take a look at the "After" photo....

SO PRETTY!!

I love the dark blue walls with the pops of yellow in the room. The yellow is such a great contrasting color...don't ya think?!

I also love the decision to go with white bedding for the room! The bedding & the white furniture really help to balance out the dark walls. I think its important to bring in lighter & brighter pieces when going with a bold & dark wall color like she did.

Christa made almost all of the accessories for this room....the throw pillows, the curtains, & wall art. Be sure to head on over to her blog to learn more about those projects & to see more inspiring photos of her new room!! You won't be disappointed! CLICK HERE
