Hey Everyone!
Just thought I would drop in to give you all a little closet update!
The last time I posted, my bedroom looked like this....
Needless to say, we didn't sleep in our bed that night!
I snuggled up with my 4 year old & my poor hubby slept on the couch! The following night we tackled the mess together & sorted through all of the clothes. Again, we made another HUGE donation to Goodwill.
I also got rid of all of our mismatched hangers....
and exchanged them for all white ones!
I can't tell you what this small change made in the space! It didn't cost a lot of money either! I purchased just plain white plastic hangers from Walmart. They came 18 in pack for just $1.97 and I bought 4 packs total.
I debated whether or not I was going to re-paint the space, but then I decided that if I was going for the "dramatic transformation" I talked about in my first post, then I better go ahead & paint!
I thought that a shade a gray would be nice....
This color is called "Gravity" it is a Valspar color I purchase at Lowes.
With clothing rods & shelving on both sides of the closet, it makes the closet feel very narrow. We used the shelving on the right side of the closet, but we didn't hang anything on the rods.
One of the main goals, I wanted to accomplish with this makeover, was that I wanted to make the closet feel larger. I thought the best way to achieve this goal was to get rid of the rods & shelving on the right side of the closet. Even though we used the shelving, I thought I could come up with an alternate storage solution for the things on this side of the room.
So, down they came...
(My 4 year old little helper took this picture...isn't he a good little assistant?!)
After taking down the old shelving, I patched the holes with spackling & a putty knife. I let the spackling dry well & then sanded the spots down to make them smooth before painting.
This is what the space looked like when the painting was finished....
I took these pictures at night, with a flash, but believe it or not, the wall color looks really close to this in person. I don't know if you noticed or not, but I also painted the clothing rods white as well.
And that too, made a HUGE difference.
The wall to the right is where all the shelving used to be. Now, the space definitely feels more open.
I have big plans for this wall & when I'm finished I'm hoping it will be the focal point of the space...
(p.s. that dresser will be getting a little makeover of its own...hopefully, this weekend!)
Here's a little sneek peek of what's going on that wall...
Do you LOVE it?!
I DO!! :)
I'm so excited about the changes going on in this closet!! I still have a few more projects to complete before I can show you all the finished product though! :)
Hopefully, this weekend I will get around to painting & giving the dresser a little makeover!
I will post it as soon as its completed!
Anyone else have any big projects that they are working on or planning to tackle soon?!
I would love to hear about them!
I will leave you with this....
Yes, my 16 month old IS dancing on the coffee table.
And yes, I should make him get down. I also probably shouldn't be encouraging it by recording him.
But you gotta to admit....It's kinda cute! :)
I hope you all have a FABULOUS Friday!!

Love it so far, Tonya! :)
ReplyDeleteWow! This is already an incredible transformation! I can't wait to see the finished product! So good for you to change this space--I think it's the space most of us neglect when it comes to creativity and individuality!

I can't wait to see this and I'm hoping it will motivate me to makeover my closet! That video was so cute!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteBLessings,
Cyndi
it is looking AMAZING!!!! i can't wait to see it finished!
ReplyDeleteHahaha!! I LOVE that video of Griffin! He is getting SO big!! And, I can't wait to see the transformation of your closet. You're putting ideas in my head that Dipal will probably not be happy about, but he has been asking for me to organize our closet a little better, so maybe I could add my own touch in addition to what he wants. :)
ReplyDeleteOhhhh reallyyy...I wanna see the final look :))) We will be waiting ..love it so far
ReplyDeleteYour boy has some moooooves! LOL
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see how your closet comes out! I don't have a walk-in closet, but have a nice closet system - thinking about at least painting inside to make it "fresh".
My big project for the year will be re-organizing my garage and remodeling my master bath (I've owned my home for over 2 years and hardly use it - it only has a tub, no shower!).
Thanks for sharing!
Great work on your closet! Makes me feel like it's January!!! And your baby, oh my goodness! LOVED that sweet little dance!!! Hope your weekend is off to a great start!
ReplyDeleteXO, Aimee
I found your blog through your husband's posts on Facebook - our mom's were best friends growing up and as a result we spent a lot of time together growing up! I love your creativity and hope that it inspires me to work on some projects in my own home! :)
ReplyDeleteoh wow, I can't tell you how please I am to see this post. My Hubby and I have done the exact same thing. we emptied our closet into our spare room while trying to plan how we needed to change the space. A trip to Ikea today and we're still scratching our heads because the only ones I liked were several $100's. We have other projects to finish in our hallway first so we're just painting and putting back for now :( I DO want to cover the horrid metal shelves with wood, but it's so nice to see yours from start to finish. Thanks so much for brightening my day! Sally xx
