From Drab to Fab!

In addition to making flower pillows....my mom has also been working on reupholstering her furniture in her living room. She has a couch, love seat, and chair which she purchased 10 years ago...all coordinating pieces. She was tired of the floral print & was ready for something new, but didn't want to spend the money to buy new furniture.

So...she decided to reupholster her existing furniture instead!

Even when shopping for fabric to reupholster furniture...you can really get into spending a lot of money. So, my mom starting researching on the internet about furniture reupholstering and came across Miss Mustard Seed. She has all kinds of great info when it comes to refinishing & reupholstering furniture. If you have never visited her site...you should definitely take a few minutes & check it out, especially if you are ready to do some refinishing or reupholstering of your own! She has great tips!

While browsing thru Miss Mustard Seed's site....my mom came across a post on reupholstering with paint drop cloths! This was perfect considering she was wanting an off-white couch, not to mention drop cloths are inexpensive!

So, the transformation began....

This is a sneek peek at what the couch looked like before with the floral print...
(these pics were taken with my mom's cell phone, sorry about the quality!)

She started out by bleaching the drop cloths per Miss Mustard Seed's advice & then measured and cut the drop cloth to fit the couch....
She then pinned the pieces and sewed them together....

And this is what the couch looks like now....

How fabulous does this look!?!

She said she ended up using 3.5 packages of drop cloths. They come 6 foot by 9 foot and are about $10 per package. So for $40 she has a completely new couch & a great new look! She will be doing the same thing to her loveseat & chair...I will post pics of them as soon as they are completed!

Any of you out there tired of your worn out couch?
Maybe its not worn out, but just not in style anymore....

Consider using paint drop cloths to give your couch a facelift!

Flower Power

I had mentioned in my previous post that my mom has been working on some projects at her house....

And since the last several posts have been on projects at my own home, I wanted to take a minute and spotlight some of the things she has been working on!

She has discovered a new passion....

Fabric Flowers!!

She makes them into pillows...

And they add the perfect amount of cuteness to all sorts of things....
 like lampshades...
And plates....
she made all of these out of some old curtains she had already at home...
So they didn't cost a thing...that makes them even cuter...right?!?

One fabulous thing about blogland is that there are so many great sites out there with so many great projects & tutorials. She simply googled "fabric flowers" and came across this website which offers a fantastic lesson on fabric flower making. To view the tutorial you can click here.

Here is a pic of some more cute throw pillows she made using the tutorial above....

Here is what the flower looks like by itself...

These babies could also be used to add a little pizzazz to a sweater by simply adding a pin to the backside or would totally be cute on a headband!

After mastering the flowers above...
It was on to something else... also flower inspired...
and totally ADORABLE!!

Loving this flower throw pillow!!!

This project was again inspired by another blog and it also offers a great tutorial on this project if you wanted to try and make one of your own. To view the tutorial click here. I think this one is definitely my favorite of all the flower inspired projects!!

So what do you think...
which flowered item is your favorite?

p.s. one of these items will be given away when we reach 120 followers!!! So, if you haven't done so yet...
make it official and become a follower of our blog!!

I will be linking these projects up at the following sites....
