Okay, so I told you I'm kind of obsessed with subway art & typography....
And now that I have realized I can make my own, the ideas just keep coming!!
So I've been loving Red Letter Words for some time now...
If you've never browsed through their site, you should totally check it out!
They have some really awesome stuff!
I think I have entered every Red Letter Words giveaway in blogland, but evidently luck isn't on my side, because I haven't won any of them! And while I ADORE their stuff....I can't bring myself to spend the money on one of their signs. So, I decided to try to re-create one of their pieces!
This is verse is one of my favorites & also my hubby's favorite as well! I thought it would be perfect in his office, so I started brainstorming....
I followed the steps from my last tutorial to make this sign...
I started with a 4 foot whitewood board that I bought at Lowes for $3.98 & had my dad cut it into 4 pieces. Each piece measured out to be approximately 11.5" x 12"...
Then I primed the board with KILZ primer & gave it two coats of black paint. I took sandpaper to the edges & the top surface of the board to give it a distressed look...
Then I cut the words out with my cricut machine & spaced them out the way I wanted them & then mod podged them to the board!
This is what I ended up with...
What do you think?
Pretty close to their version, right?!
I'm happy with it & so is my hubby!
Can't wait to see it hanging in his office!!
It's such a great reminder!
That no matter what life brings...no matter how hard, no matter how difficult, we CAN get through & we CAN conquer all of the struggles that come our way it we just lean on the STRENGTH of our
Lord Jesus Christ!

I love following your blog and all your awesome ideas! I have never used a cricut machine but now that I have seen what you can do with one...I want one! Do you have any pointers for looking for one? Also, can you think of anyway to do the letters without using a cricut machine? I am trying to figure out how I could make them...
ReplyDeleteLove it that looks awesome!

What an awesome job, Tonya!!! Wow! Just beautiful! Now that definitely something that I could most certainly tackle! I don't have a cricut, but if I'm really patient and have a steady hand, I could use my stencils, I suppose! Thanks for the tutorial, sweets! :)

ReplyDeleteAmen, Tonya! Your "red letter" board came out great! Thanks for sharing the "how to"!!
ReplyDeleteAwesome job. I was looking at their site a few weeks ago trying to figure out how to DIY this. I'm so bookmarking this.
ReplyDeleteThis is AWESOME!!! And I went to the site where I can buy them instead of making them and I can't tell the difference between yours and theirs, well expect for the prices theirs are so much higher! I am going to do something like this for my bedroom and I love its Christain themed which makes it even better! Thanks for sharing :)
ReplyDeleteI love this! Do you have any idea what size you cut the letters?
ReplyDeleteI love this! Do you have any idea what size you cut the letters?
ReplyDeleteHi Beth!
DeleteThe letters vary in size! The smallest letters are 1 inch and the largest are 2 inches.
