DIY Pallet Wall Art...

Happy Friday Everyone!!

I hope all of you have had a great week!! I know I have!!

I spent my day yesterday working on a fun project that was actually inspired by this tutorial at The Lettered Cottage and this piece that I found on pinterest. It was easy to do & I love the way it turned out!! It's going to be part of my summer mantel that I am currently working on, so you are getting a little sneak peek if you will....

Because he is soo handy, I recruited my dad to build my frame. I wanted the wall art to be 15"x15".  He used 1x2's that I had left-over from my board & batten laundry room makeover to construct the frame.....

Kevin & Layla used something called "fill-it strips" to create the slats on the frame, but my dad just cut the strips out himself from some left-over beadboard he had laying around....

Here is a view of the back so you can see what I'm talking about...

I gave the slats & the frame a light coat of brown paint so that when I distressed it later, the brown would peek through a bit....

I then gave it two coats of a cream colored paint, hit the edges with some sand paper to give it that distressed look & then went over it lightly with an antiquing medium...

This is what it looked like when I was done.

Here are a few close-ups so you can see the distressing...

I came up with the sayings that I wanted, cut them out with my cricut machine using a chocolate brown cardstock, & then mod podged them to the slats...

I have no pictures of this process...sorry!!

Anyway, when I was finished I did what I do after every blog project...

Take it outside for a photoshoot!!

Then I brought it back in, to get some pictures of it on my soon-to-be summer mantel...

I will actually be hanging it, but for these pics I just decided to lean it against the wall...

 Well, what do you think?!

 Do you LOVE it?!

I DO!!

The best part about this project...

I had everything that I needed to make it with the exception of the brown cardstock for the letters...
I think I spent $1.00 on the paper!

Where can you find wall-art for a buck?!

Especially a piece as big as this that makes such a big impact to the room!

Hope that you enjoyed this little tutorial & I hope I've inspired you to make one of your own!!

Have a great weekend!!

  1. Absolutely beautiful! Love the simplicity of it. I suppose if you don't have a cricut machine that stencils would work too? Lovely addition to your home.
