About a month or so ago, my mom & I stopped by our local goodwill & we found this mirror for $6.00!!
I have been looking for a mirror about this size to go above my armoire in my bedroom for some time now and although this mirror wasn't the right color, it was definitely the right size & I liked the shape!
Here is what it looked like before...
I took a brown paper bag & cut it to fit inside the mirror & then tape the edges off securely so that the paint wouldn't leak onto the mirror...
I bought some Ivory colored spray paint at Walmart for about $4.00...
And I spray painted the CRAP out of this thing...
Seriously, I must have done at least 10 coats!!!
But you have to admit....it does look much better!!
I wanted to hang the mirror with ribbon, so I bought some ivory colored ribbon at Hobby Lobby for $2.50 (on sale.) I cut the ribbon to the size I needed & then hot glued it to the back of the mirror.
This mirror is pretty light weight ( the frame is actually made of plastic), so the hot glue was sufficient to hang it. If you have a heavier mirror, you may want to look at a different option! Just to be sure, I used A LOT of hot glue!! I wanted to make sure it was secure & that it wouldn't fall off the wall once hung!
And this is what it looks like hanging above my armoire in the bedroom!
I am super happy with how it turned out! It added the perfect touch to my display...
Note: the mirror is hanging by one single piece of ribbon & then
the bow was added last...again, I used hot glue to attach it!
Do you have any quick & easy transformations that you have done with spray paint?
I would LOVE to hear about them!!!

ReplyDeleteHow pretty!!
ReplyDeleteI love your monochromatic grouping. It looks so fresh. I've always been one to shop around for things that were already exactly what I wanted. But lately, I've been inspired by posts like yours to look past the way things look now to the way things could look with a little paint, fabric, mod podge, etc. Thanks for the inspiration!!!
ReplyDeleteTonya, I love the mirror project. I love the idea that you took a cheap mirror and made it a work of art. Great job.

ReplyDeleteI love this...just bought a similar mirror at GW (gold plastic) that I need to paint. The ribbon is the sweetest little touch - great idea. I am your newest follower!
ReplyDeleteIt looks wonderful!
ReplyDeleteFor a heavier mirror, hang it as you would a picture, then attach the ribbon to the wall above it. It will look the same, but the mirror will be more secure.
