Remember this cabinet?
I asked you months ago whether I should paint it Blue or Cream.
Most everyone who responded to my cry for help responded with the answer.....BLUE!
So I took action & began painting!
After painting the whole cabinet blue...I wasn't quite satisfied
(hints the reason why I never posted it on the blog)
So I began thinking & first wanted to come up with a purpose for the cabinet!
We don't have a ton of cabinet space, so I wanted to make good use of the cabinet. Before it housed all of my craft stuff & it was packed to the gills! Just ask my hubby...you didn't even want to open the thing, because you knew 1.) something was going to fall out & 2.) you may not get it closed again. But after revamping my coat closet & turning it into my home office, I was able to re-organize all of my crafting supplies in it! So here this black cabinet in my kitchen sat empty & was serving no purpose...
Then I came up with an idea...it would serve as a small pantry & house all of my can goods! Then I would be able to free up some space in my lazy Susan! I also had an idea to use the inside surface of the door as a chalkboard/memo board to keep track of things I needed from the store! So I painted the shelves blue on the inside of the cabinet & use chalkboard spray paint to create a
chalkboard surface on the inside of the door!
This is what it looked like when I was finished!
I wanted spruce up the chalkboard by adding
a little bit of cuteness!
Ideally, I wanted to use vinyl lettering for the door, but because I
am impatient & didn't want to wait on ordering the vinyl
& because I don't have one of those fancy silhouette machines...
I decided to improvise!
I used white cardstock & cut the letters out with my cricut
machine & just simply glued them to the chalkboard!
I used a level & made a straight line with a pencil to be sure that I would get the letters on straight!
I peeled the letters out of the cut-out cardstock...
Used the glue stick to adhere them to the chalkboard...
This is what it looked like when I was finished!!
Cute, huh?!?
Then I organized my can goods inside the cabinet...
And used my chalkboard to write-out my shopping list!
Did you know that you don't even have to mess with that dusty chalk anymore?!?
Hobby Lobby has these fabulous Chalk Markers! They work just like chalk, but without the mess!
What a fantastic invention!!
Loving it!!
I'm so happy with the way this cabinet turned out!! Not only is it cute, but it is also
a functional piece in the kitchen!
This was such a cheap transformation as well...
I already had the blue paint leftover from a previous project, so all I really had to buy was the chalkboard spray paint. I got it at Hobby Lobby for $7.99 and then I used a 40% off coupon as well so I paid even less than that!
I added a picture frame & some fresh flowers to dress up the top of the cabinet...
One other expense was this glass knob! Ever since my mom used these glass knobs in her kitchen remodel, I have been wanting to use them in my house! I thought this would be the perfect opportunity! I love the way the glass knob looks against the blue cabinet!! I also purchased it at Hobby Lobby when they had the knobs half-off! I paid $2.50 for it!
And here is a picture of what my kitchen nook looks like! Love the pop of color that the blue cabinet adds along with my curtains!! I'm also loving the small pops of pink from those tulips!! :)
Speaking of tulips....
Spring is just around the corner people!!!
I can't tell you how excited I am about that!!
What are you doing to get ready for spring at your home?

ReplyDeleteBeautiful Job! I have a very similar cabinet in my family room. I just changed the room to be mostly white with blue accents and painting my cabinet like yours would be the perfect. What is the name of the color you used? I just love it!
ReplyDeleteGreat job!! Love the grocery list idea too. And no one needs to know that you have a little mini pantry in your lovely eating area. You can buy a sticky back, vinyl to use in your cricut machine too.
ReplyDeleteThe cabinet looks nice. The new color suits it well. What a great idea with the grocery list as well :)
ReplyDeleteThis turned out BEAUTIFULLY! It's over the moon! I am working on my walk in pantry soon and there is a center column that I plan to put a chalk board for this same thing. FABULOUS work!
ReplyDeleteI would be delighted if you would link this to my VIP party today =)

What a great makeover! I adore chalkboard paint. =) I was looking for those chalkboard pens at the craft stores around here (I live in MN), and I couldn't find them! I just love how you don't have to deal with the messy chalk, and it looks SO much prettier too. Thanks for sharing your makeover!
